What expenses can I claim as a sole trader?

Business expenses and what you can claim back are more or less the same for a sole trader and a limited company. As a sole trader you will want to claim as many expenses back as you can, so you pay less tax, but the expense has to be for the business and not for a new pair of shoes.  Also, if you use your mobile for your business and the contract is not in the business name you can only claim half your bill as an expense.  The differences are if you buy something for the business and it can be used for both personal use and business use what you can claim back on is different so say you use your car for your business if you are self-employed, you can claim a simplified expense of £4,500.00 or you can claim 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and then 25p per mile after, usually the simplified expense is easier, click the link https://www.gov.uk/simplified-expenses-checker
