Resident Stories: Flamingo Boulevard

Business Name:

Flamingo Boulevard

What is the nature of your business / what services do you offer?

A bridal boutique for the laid-back modern bride, not standard a bridal shop, more of an experience.

How did you come to be in the industry you are in? What is your background?

I previously worked in the Bridal Industry.  As a bride myself I struggled to find my own wedding dress. I had an idea in my head what I wanted which was something a bit different, but I couldn't find what I wanted anywhere, which was really frustrating.  I realised that there was a gap in the market for the style of dress I liked, hence the birth of Flamingo Bridal.

I opened my own shop, but I wasn't happy with space that I was in I always wanted somewhere a bit different, just like the wedding dresses that I sell, so something with a bit more character. I decided to get rid of the shop and moved to do my business from home, but it wasn't the same. I couldn't have the work and home life balance.

Before I moved into my previous shop, I had originally messaged The Secret Warehouse asking if they had an available room but they were full at that time. So I messaged them again later on and miraculously they had one room available for me and it’s just perfect!

I came to view it with my mum and was taken away by the whole building and fell in love. I actually cried when I got in the car because it was the most perfect space that I wanted to work from.

How would you like your clients / customers to describe your business?

Personal, comfortable, special, experience, the whole package.

What has been your greatest achievement to date?

Surviving and growing in the pandemic.

How does your business align with the values and ethos of the Secret Warehouse?

Positivity. Things have been tough when I wasn't in the correct space but now, I keep going and think ahead and always ask what's next.

How has being a part of the Warehouse community benefitted your business?

Massively! Being someone who used to work on their own in a shop, it's actually like having workmates. It's like a complete package. All my customers love the building as well.

If you could give one piece of advice to anyone who wants to start their own business what would it be?

Do it; don't overthink it.
