Business Name:
Tracey Miller Designs
What is the nature of your business / what services do you offer?
We offer a bespoke millinery service for ladies who are looking for something that little bit more special. We can design, create, and colour match to outfits for all types of headwear - from headbands to fedoras and everything in between.
How did you come to be in the industry you are in? What is your background?
My career began in banking and finance, but I’ve always had a creative side. The hats came into play when I couldn’t find a hat for my friend’s wedding. The hats that were available in the shops were all very old fashioned to me. I wanted to wear a Philip Treacy hat, but the £1,500 price tag was a little out of my price range! So not satisfied with my choices, I decided to make my own and that’s where it all began.
How would you like your clients / customers to describe your business?
I am very lucky to have such loyal and wonderful clients who appreciate the work that I do. I do receive lots of referrals from existing clients and I’m really flattered that they take the time to do that. I think it’s important that my clients trust me and know that my priority is to make them look and feel their very best. If my clients feel special throughout each stage of the hat making process. I’ve done my job.
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
My greatest achievement is the last hat that I complete. Each and every hat is handmade from scratch and although I don’t think about it often - that really is an achievement in itself.
How does your business align with the values and ethos of the Secret Warehouse?
I was always going to spend some time at this beautiful place. I’m a very positive person and I feel totally at home here. I love seeing people do well and see businesses grow and you can really feel the energy in and around the building. My job is all about making people feel good. Each client needs a hat that expresses their personality. Only then, do they truly own their look and walk with confidence. It’s up to me to show them how they can do that.
How has being a part of the warehouse community benefitted your business?
I’ve moved here quite recently and by moving to a larger space I’ve been able to employ 2 wonderful new assistants - Annie and Bethan. It’s an absolute joy to come to work every day. It really doesn’t feel like work at all. It’s the people, the vibe, the surroundings, and the positivity that makes this place what it is. If you start your day with a positive attitude and surround yourself with like-minded people in an environment like this - only good things can happen.
If you could give one piece of advice to anyone who wants to start their own business what would it be?
Have passion! LOTS OF PASSION! If you wake up excited about going to work, then you are doing the right thing.
